Newark 3XV 25 - 43 Rasen 2XV

After a cold month without a match and a few new faces added to the team, Market Rasen and Louth 2nd XV travelled to Newark to face a 3rd XV playing a league above the Red and Greens.

Rasen started slowly finding themselves pinned in their own 22 for long periods, unable to secure their own scrum and struggling to deal with Newark's well organised pack mauling from a lineout resulting in Newark inevitably scoring a try.

Hope however was restored after Rasen secured a lineout deep in Newark's half, the ball was quickly wiped out by scrum half Will Fenwick, to Chris Everton who played an excellently worked pass to Ernie Thompson (referred to as 'the big centre' by an opposition player after the game) who crashed through two tackles to pass to Chris Green who scored a converted try under the posts.

Newark continued to use their pack to good effect scoring twice more until a Rasen player was stamped on, sparking a tussle which resulted in both players being sin-binned. This incident proved to be the turning point of the match with Market Rasen being the team able to take advantage of the extra space. Chris Everton linked up well with Ernie Thompson who scored two more converted tries following mistakes by Newark to take Rasen into a 15-21 lead at half time.

The second half continued brightly for Market Rasen with three more tries being scored soon after the break by Chris Everton, Jack Dale and Ernie Thompson who converted them all bar one and scored a penalty in front of the posts.

Newark scored two more consolation tries late in the game to give Market Rasen and Louth 2nd XV a splendid 25-43 win on the Newark 1st XV pitch.
